How it works

Four steps from stuck to solved

No apps to install and nothing to schedule online. Reach out, tell us what's going on, and a certified tech gets on the line with you.

  1. Call or email

Reach us at 317-625-0737 or by email. Tell us if you're a pro in the field or a DIYer.

  2. Describe the job

Make, model, symptoms, readings, what you've already checked. Send a photo of the model plate or the model number (required), plus photos of the unit or wiring.

  3. Connect by Zoom or phone

Daytime calls are by Zoom so we can see the equipment live. After hours, we connect by phone. See How Zoom works.

  4. Billed by the hour

You pay for the time on the call, nothing more. We confirm the rate before we start.

Model plate photo or model number: required

Send either a photo of the model plate (the sticker on the unit with the model and serial number) or the model number. Either one works, but one is required, not optional. Need help finding it? Our certified technician can help you locate it.

Around 75 percent of do-it-yourselfers are able to get going that night, and the rest we keep working with until they're back up.

Daytime video calls

How Zoom works

Daytime calls are by Zoom

Our certified technician can see your unit live. You tap the link we send; there's nothing to sign up for. Point your phone's camera at the furnace or unit, or share your screen.

No need to show your face

You don't need to show your face, and you only see our Universal HVAC Academy Online Technician logo.

Can't do video?

Join by phone with the dial-in number in the invite.

After-hours calls are by phone

Send photos (model plate or model number, the unit, the wiring) by text to 317-625-0737 or by email to universalhvacacademy@gmail.com.

One tip: to share your phone screen, the free Zoom app works best; camera works right from the link.

For DIYers

Mini-split layout & design

Thinking about putting in a ductless mini-split yourself? We help you plan the whole job before you buy a thing, so you know exactly what it looks like and what's involved.

  • Where the units go: the right wall and height for each indoor head and the best spot for the outdoor condenser.
  • Where the electric runs: from the panel to the outdoor disconnect, and from the condenser to each indoor head.
  • Line set routing: the cleanest path through walls, attics or crawl spaces, plus condensate drain options.
  • What it looks like finished: line hide covers, pad or wall bracket, and how it sits in your space.
  • What's involved: tools, materials, steps, and which parts need a pro for local code compliance.
  • Whole-job layout from photos: send photos of your home's interior and exterior, and we lay out the full job.
  • Help getting estimates: know what to ask for, compare quotes, and spot what's missing.

Parts service

Hard-to-find HVAC parts, tracked down

Obsolete board? Discontinued motor? Odd-size part nobody stocks? Our certified technician uses our network of suppliers and supply-house buying to find the part you need.

Supplier network

We reach out across distributors and contacts to locate rare and discontinued parts.

Supply-house buying

Many supply houses sell only to the trade. We can buy through supply-house channels for you.

Right part, first time

We match cross-references and replacements so you don't wait on the wrong part.

Order or find a rare part

Tell us the make, model and part number, and our certified technician tracks it down. No cart, no guesswork: just call or email with:

  • A photo of the model plate (the sticker with the model and serial number) or the model number. One is required. Need help finding it? Our certified technician can help you locate it.
  • Serial number, if you have it
  • Part number or a photo of the old part and its label
  • How fast you need it and where it ships

Gas smell or carbon monoxide? Don't call us first.

We don't handle gas leaks or CO emergencies. Leave the building now and call 911 or your gas utility from outside.

Contact

Call or email. We'll take it from there.

Tell us what you're working on. Pros in the field and DIYers both welcome.

Sending photos? Email works best. A photo of the model plate (the sticker with the model and serial number) or the model number is required; also send pictures of the unit, wiring or your rooms.
